World u20 Championship in Barcelos

The World u20 Championship 2011 (11-17 September) has been presented today in Barcelos. With the presence of local and rink-hockey authorities, the Championship has been officialy announced. Vitor Grilo, from the Portuguese Federation, indicated that 14 countries have already applied to the Championship:

Australia

Prof. Ilidio Torres, from the municipal sports administration, presented some historical appointements about the first moments of roller hockey development in Barcelos, since 1947, and the growing importance that Barcelos got in the promotion of the sport. José Paulo Matias, President of AP Minho, stressed the relevance of this competition after 25 years of absence of great international competitions in Barcelos, connecting this event with the growing of roller hockey activity in all the region of Minho. Domingos Pereira, vice-President of the municipality of Barcelos announced the support given to the Championship, whishing that it will be an important element for the promotion of hockey and Barcelos worldwide.

A promoting video has been presented as well as the logo of the Championship developed by staff and design students of IPCA (Polytechnics Institute of Cavado and Ave).

Cristiano Pereira, twice World Champion for Portugal (1974 and 1982), remembered the relevance of Barcelos in the promotion of roller hockey, and enhanced the importance of diffusing more and more our sport in all the World.

Spain beats Portugal in veterans

.
Teams of Portugal and Spain composed of players from the 80ties and 90ties, disputed today a friendly game in Barcelos, during the presentation of World Championship u20 2011.

Spain won 4-3.

Teams were:

Spain: Ruben Sanchez, Ricardo Satue, Jose Giralt, Placido Alegrete, Luis Velasco, Nene Zabalia, Juan Torner, Willy Duarte and Benito Gomez

Portugal: António Chambel, Alberto Sousa, Paulo Castanheira, Vítor Hugo, Luís Ferreira, Carlos Realista, Domingos Carvalho, Vítor Bruno, Chana, Hugo Araújo, Sérgio Nunes and Alfredo Silva.

Goals were marked by Zabalia (2), Joan Torner (2), Luis Ferreira (2) and Domingos Carvalho

Portugal - Spain ("old players"), tomorrow in Barcelos

A game between old players from Portugal and Spain from World Championship 1982 and European Championship 1985 will be held tomorrow at Barcelos Pavillion, 15h.

Valenciano wins first game in the San Juan final

.
DU Estudiantil was beaten by Centro Valenciano 8-2 in the first game of the Final of San Juan Apertura.

2nd game to be played tonight in San Juan.

CERS Cup Final Four starts next saturday

.
The CERS Cup Final Four will start next saturday, 7th May, with the following games:

16h00: HC Braga - CP Vilanova
18h00 SL Benfica - AE Fisica Desportiva

The games will be played in Sports Hall del Garraf in Vilanova i la Geltru / Spain 

The final will be disputed between the winners of these games in the 8th May, 13h00.

After beating 7-2 the team of AD Sanjoanense, Riba d'Ave HC returned to 1a Divisão, after some years in the second portuguese division.
